Describe the macroscopic appearance of the trachea

12cm long, 2.5 cm wide connection from the larynx (~C6) to the carina (~T4/5) where it divides into the left and right main bronchi
The trachea consists of 16-20 C-shaped cartilaginous rings it is divided into cervical and thoracic trachea as it enters through the thoracic inlet posterior smooth muscle (trachealis) |
