Autograft - from self usually and organ or tissue.
Isograft - from an identical twin organ or tissue.
Xenograft - from a different species such as a pig heart implanted into a human.
Allograft - from the same species such as human to human organ or tissue
List 3 parts of lymph system?
1) network of lymph vessels.
2) lymph the fluid within vessels
3) lymph nodes - cleanse and for organs and tissues of lymphatic system
What does the lymph system do?
Blood circulates throughout body w/ nutrients, waste and gases. Leaked fluid, plasma proteins often escape and enter blood stream. Lymph system filters and returns back to bloodstream cleaned and filtered free from bacteria/viruses and pathogen infection.
How are lymphatic vessels from blood vessels?
lymph vessels are one way, flows only toward the heart. Transport begins in lymph capillaries (which are extremely permeable) of minivalves which only also open one way - in but not out.
Blood vessels
What are lacteals?
Lympatic cappillary w fingerlike villa of intestinal mucous. absorb fats that attempt to remain in intestines.
What is chyle?
Fatty lymph which is delivered to blood
Pathway of lymph within body?
Lymph capillaries, to collecting vessels, to lymph trunks, finally to lymph ducts.
Pathway of lymph within body?
Lymph capillaries, to collecting vessels, to lymph trunks, finally to lymph ducts.
How is lyphm transported?
It lacks a pump or organ that has a pump - lymph vessels are low pressure- bundled together in connective tissue along w blood vessels therefore promoting lymph flow.
Is lymph flow fast or slow?
It is slow and sporadic
What is homeostatic imbalance vasa vasorum?
Large blood vessels collect blood and are red and painful to the touch aka lymphangitis.
List two ducts of lymph system in thoracic region?
1) Right lymphatic duct which drains right upper limb and right side of head and thorax.
2) thoracic duct - receives lymph from rest of body.
What is cisterna chyli?
enlarged sac on lumbar vertebrae that collects lymph from lower limbs and from intestinal trunk that drains the digestive organs.
What is Edema in regards to the lymph system?
Collection of blood and often lymph which has been blocked.
What is lymph and where does it come from?
lymph is a fluid which comes from interstitial fluid which filters blood plasma.
What are lympathic cells?
lymphatic cells are the invaders that are part of the immune system which kill and destroy foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, disease and often cancer cells.
What are lymphocytes?
They are the main attackers which fight off infection within the body.
What are T cells and where are they produced?
T cells are t lymphocytes which are formed in the thymus. They are immunocompetent
What are B cells?
Also protect the body from foreign invaders by producing plasma cells that secrete antibodies into the blood.
What are phagocytes?
They are cells which eat foreign invaders.
What does the lymphatic tissue do to protect the body?
It holds the lymphocytes and allows them to survey all that enters the lymphatic system.
What are lymph nodes and describe their function?
Lymph nodes are clusters of lymph vessels. They are located near the body surface in the inguinal, axillary and cervical regions of the body.
