      Why is a 4/4 trump split usually better then a 5/3 split?
    • Opponent's trump usually split 3/2 when you have 8. If it does you will be able to use either hand as the short "ruffing" hand.

      What is Smolen?
    • A convention used over 1NT, when responder has 5/4 or 6/4 in major with game points. Bid 2C(stayman) over 2D bid 3 of your 4 card major. Opener sets game contract.
