Description: Globe - a scale model of the Earth.
Map - a symbolic representation of all or part of the planet.
Cartographers - use math formulas to transfer information from three dimension to two dimension.
Great circle route - Ships and planes use this route to save time and fuel.
Map projection - the distance, shape, direction, or size may be distorted by a projection.
Planar, Cylindrical, and Conic - are the three categories of map projections.
Interrupted projection - resembles a globe that has been cut and laid flat.
Location - lines on a map used to locate a certain location.
Grid system - helps you find exact locations.
Hemisphere - the top and bottom halves of the earth.
Latitude - the parallel lines on a grid for earth.
Equator - the invisible line across the middle of the earth.
Longitude - the horizontal lines on a grid.
Prime Meridian - it is at 0 degrees on a grid .
Absolute location - every place has a address. Used to locate it's certain place.
North and South Hemisphere - The north and South locations atop the equator.
East and west Hemisphere - East and west sides of the equator.
Scale bar - the distance of places
Compass rose and Cardinal directions - North south east and west compass is the direction. Intermediate direction - the directions between the main directions.
Scale - the relation with the mape is distance.
Relative location - Location of one place related to another.
Physical map and topography - shape of earth's physical features
Relief and elevation- or height of landforms.
Political and human maps - boundries of land : map made by humans.
Thematic maps - maps that enphasize a single idea
qualitive maps - maps that use colors, lines and dots.
flow- line maps - maps that illastraight the movements of people.
Site - refers to a spacific location.
Situation - a relative location.
Place - a particular space
regions - or areas of simular character.
Formal region - defined with common characteristics.
Functional region - a central place.
Perceptual region - popular feelings and images.
ecoysystem - a community of plants and animals.
movement - of people or goods.
Human-environment interaction - the interrelationship between people and environment.
cartography - making maps
Geographic information systems - computer tools for map making.
