What are stereoisomers?
Same molecular formula and same connectivity but different orientation in space.
How does the priority rule for R and S work?
It's based on atomic number, higher atomic number means higher priority.
Which group has a higher priority?
The higher priority in the vinyl group because it has less hydrogens (2) than the isopropyl (3 H's)
What is the equation used to determine the number of stereoisomers?
2^n
where n is the number of chiral centers
Which compounds are diastereomers or enantiomers?
If they all change (R->S or S->R) then they are enantiomers.

If all but one changed then they are diastereomers.
What is a mess compound?
contains two or more chrial centers but is a chiral.
How is R and S configuration determined in Fischer projections?
How does the ring flip in the chair configuration work?
What ever is up stays up and vice versa. The only thing that change is axial becomes equatorial and vice versa. The pointed ends will point in the opposite direction after the flip (up points down).
How does the polarimeter work?
The analyzing filter is turned to 90 degrees of the polarizing filter to prevent light from going through.

A sample is placed in the tube and while rotate the light so that light can be seen.

The α is the degrees which the analyzing filter must turn to restore the darkness.
What is optical purity?
it's used to determine the percentage of a certain amount of optically active species in a solution such as (R or S)
What is enantiomeric excess?
This is the difference between the number of moles of each enantiomer mixture compared to the total number of both
