POA:
The position of attention is the basic military position from which most other drill movements are executed. There are no counts; however there are 07 steps in describing the position. The movement may be executed when halted, at any position of rest, while marching at route step, or at ease. The commands are “Fall In”, and “Company/Squad Attention”. On the command “Fall In”, you would assume your position in ranks at the POA. The command of execution “Attention” is always preceded by a preparatory command designated by the size of the unit, such as “Company” or “Squad”. For example, when drilling a company, the command to bring them to attention would be “Company Attention”. Thereafter, they move only as ordered until given “At Ease”, “Rest”, “Fallout”, or they are dismissed.
REST:
The POTM is to give the recruits a rest from the POA. There are 04 positions of rest for halted recruits. They are “Parade Rest” “At Ease”, Rest”, and “Fall Out”. “Parade Rest” “At Ease”, & Rest” are 01 count movements. “Fall out” is not a precision movement and has no counts. All are executed from the position of attention. The commands are “Parade Rest” “At Ease”, Rest”, and “Fall Out”.
FACING MOVEMENTS:
The POTM is to face the company to right, left, or about. Facing Movements are executed in 02 counts when halted at attention. The commands are “RIGHT FACE, “LEFT FACE”, and “ABOUT FACE”. Facing movements are executed in the cadence of quicktime. While facing, your arms should not swing out from your sides, but remain at the POA.
QUICK TIME:
The POTM is to march at 112 to 120 steps per minute taking 30 “steps. There are no counts. It may be executed when halted at attention, marking time, marching forward at double time, and marching at ½ step. The commands are “FORWARD MARCH” or “QUICKTIME MARCH”.
DOUBLE TIME:
The POTM is to march at 180 steps per minute taking 36” steps. There are no counts. It may be executed when halted at attention, marking time, double timing in place, and marching at quick time. The command is “DOUBLE TIME MARCH”. When called while marching, the command “MARCH” may be called as EFSTD.
HALT:
The purpose of this movement is to stop the movement of a marching unit. It is executed in 02 counts when marching at quicktime and 03 counts when marching at doubletime. It may be executed when marching at QT, HS, DT, SS, BS, MT, and DTing in P. The COE is “HALT” which is always preceded by a preparatory command designated by the size of the unit, such “COMPANY” or SQUAD”. The COE may be called as EFSTD except for SS.
MARKTIME:
The POTM is to march in place at a quicktime cadence. There are no counts. It may be executed when halted at attention, DTing in P, marching at HS, and marching at QT. While marching the command may be called as EFSTD. The command is “MARK TIME, MARCH”.
HALF STEP:
The POTM is to march forward at quicktime taking 15” steps. There are no counts. It may be executed when halted at attention or marching forward at quicktime. While marching it may be called as EFSTD. The command is “HALFSTEP, MARCH”.
SIDESTEP:
The POTM is to move the company a short distance to right/left. There are no counts; however there is a cadence of 1-2. This command is executed only when you are halted at attention. The command is “RIGHT/LEFT STEP, MARCH”
BACKSTEP:
The POTM is to march the company backwards for a short distance. TANC. This command is called only when halted at attention. The command is “BACKWARD MARCH”.
CHANGESTEP:
The POTM is to change the cadence count without changing the rhythm of the cadence. TANC. It may be executed when marching at QT, DT, MT, or DTing in P. The command is “CHANGE STEP, MARCH”.
TO MARCH AT EASE:
The POTM is to give the recruits a rest from marching at attention or when keeping in step (KIS) becomes difficult due to rough or slippery terrain. TANC. It may be executed as EFSTD and only when marching at QT. The command is “AT EASE, MARCH”.

TO ALIGN THE COMPANY:
The POTM is to align the company. When in line formation the commands are “DRESS RIGHT/LEFT DRESS”, “READY FRONT”, and “COVER”. When in column formation the command to dress alignment is “COVER”.
TO ALIGN THE COMPANY (CLOSE INTERVAL):
The POTM is to align the company at a close interval. When in line formation the commands are “AT CLOSE INTERVAL DRESS RIGHT/LEFT DRESS”, “READY FRONT”, and “COVER”. When in column formation the command to dress alignment is “COVER”.
OPEN RANKS:
The POTM is to increase the distance between ranks to 70” in order to accommodate an inspection party. It may be executed when halted in line at attention, and at normal or close interval. The command is “OPEN RANKS, MARCH”; “READY FRONT”; and “COVER”.
CLOSE RANKS:
The POTM is to decrease the distance between opened ranks to a normal distance of 40”. It may be called when the company is at attention at open ranks. The command is “CLOSE RANKS, MARCH”. It should be called when the immediately after the reason for opening ranks is accomplished and before the company is given further drill movements or is dismissed.
TO CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF A COLUMN:
The POTM is to change the direction of march 90 degrees. It may be executed when the company is halted at attention or marching in column. The command is “COLUMN RIGHT/LEFT, MARCH”.
TO MARCH TO THE FLANK:
The POTM is to march the entire company to the right or left for a short distance. TANC. It may be executed when halted at attention or marching at quicktime. The command is “BY THE RIGHT/LEFT FLANK, MARCH”. When marching, the COE is called as your foot in the direction of the movement strikes the deck.
TO MARCH IN THE OBLIQUE:
The POTM is to shift the line of march 45 degrees to the right or left for a short distance and then resume marching in the original direction. TANC. It may be executed only when marching at quicktime. The command is “RIGHT/LEFT OBLIQUE, MARCH”. To resume the original direction of march the command is “FORWARD MARCH”.
TO MARCH TO THE REAR:
The POTM is to march the company to the rear for a short distance. TANC. It may be executed when halted at attention or marching at quicktime. The command is “TO THE REAR, MARCH”.
TO FORM A COLUMN OF FILES:
The POTM is to form a column of files. TANC. It may be executed when halted at attention. The command is “COLUMN OF FILES FROM THE RIGHT/LEFT, MARCH”.
COUNTER MARCH:
The POTM is to change the direction of the company 180 degrees. TANC. It may be executed only when marching at QT. The command is “COUNTER, MARCH”

TRAIL ARMS: MOA
The POTM is for facing movements, aligning, and marching short distances. This is a 01 count movement. It is normally executed upon C’sOE for other COD movements but for training purposes, the command is TRAIL ARMS. TRT to order arms the command is ORDER ARMS.
PORT ARMS: MOA
The POTM is the 2 handed carry position. This is a 02 count movement. The command is PORT ARMS. TRT order arms the command is ORDER ARMS. This is a 03 count movement.
PRESENT ARMS: MOA
The POTM is to salute persons and colors when in a formation or standing sentry. This is a 02 count movement. The command is PRESENT ARMS. TRT order arms the command is ORDER ARMS. This is a 03 count movement.
RIGHT SHOULDER ARMS: MOA
The POTM is to bring the piece to a position on the right shoulder. This is a 04 count movement. The command is RIGHT SHOULDER ARMS. TRT to order arms the command is ORDER ARMS. This is a 04 count movement.
LEFT SHOULDER ARMS: MOA
The POTM is to bring the piece to a position on the left shoulder. This is a 04 count movement. The command is LEFT SHOULDER ARMS. TRT to order arms the command is ORDER ARMS. This is a 05 count movement.
PARADE REST: MOA
The POTM is to give the company a rest from the position of order arms. This movement can only be executed from the position of order arms. This is a 01 count movement. The command is PARADE REST. TRT order arms the command is COMPANY ATTENTION. This is a 01 count movement.
AT EASE: MOA
The POTM is to give the company a rest from the position of order arms. This is a 01 count movement. The command is AT EASE. There is no prepatory command and at ease is the COE. TRT to the position of order arms the command is COMPANY ATTENTION. This is a 01 count movement.
RIFLE SALUTE: MOA
The POTM is to salute persons and colors when not in formation or standing sentry. This is a 01 count movement. It may be executed when at order arms, trail arms, or right shoulder arms. The command is RIFLE SALUTE. TRT order arms, trail arms, or right shoulder arms the command is READY TWO. This is a 01 count movement.
ORDER GUIDON: MOG
The POTM is to the basic position of attention with the guidon. You will automatically assume order guidon, without command, when speaking or when being spoken to. The commands are ORDER ARMS, COMPANY ATTENTION, and FALL-IN.
CARRY GUIDON: MOG
The POTM is to march with the guidon. This movement is normally executed on the prepatory command for most COD movements
PRESENT GUIDON: MOG
The POTM is to salute persons and colors during parades and ceremonies. The command is PRESENT ARMS. TRT to order arms the command is ORDER ARMS.
PARADE REST: MOG
The POTM is to give guidon a rest from the position of order guidon. The command is PARADE REST. TRT to order arms the command is ORDER ARMS.
