Creatinine clearance as a measure of renal function.
Creatinine is a by-product of the metabolic breakdown of muscle and usually has a constant
value in an individual. Serum creatinine is measured through laboratory analysis of a patient’s
blood. Normal serum creatinine (Scr) is ≈ 0.9-1.2 mg/dL. This range will change slightly depending on the reference used.
Normal CrCl is
Normal CrCl is ≈ 100-140 mL/min
serum creatinine (Scr) vs. creatinine clearance
(CrCl).
There is an inverse relationship between

The higher Scr is, the lower CrCl will be.
CrCl (mL/min)=

72 x Scr
Multiply answer by 0.85 for women (to adjust for lower
percentage muscle mass
Ideal body weight (IBW) females
45.5 kg + (2.3 x [inches over 5 feet])
Ideal body weight (IBW) (kg) males
50 kg + (2.3 x [inches over 5 feet])
adjusted body weight
IBW + 0.4(Actual-IBW)
use adjusted body weight when
Actual/IBW > 1.3
