Glenoid Fossa
the concavity in the temporal bone by the zygomatic arch that receives the mandibular condyle
Condyle
an articular prominence of a bone; ie: in the mandible, an ellipsoidal projection of bone that articulates with the glenoid
centric relation - chewing cycle
a clinically determined position of the mandible placing both condyles into their anterior uppermost position. This can can be determined in patients without pain or derangement in the TMJ
Maximal intercuspal position
the complete intercuspation of the opposing teeth independent of condylar position, sometimes referred to as the best fit of the teeth regardless of the condylar position
working side
the side toward which the mandible moves in a lateral excursion
laterotrusion
condylar movement on the working side in the horizontal plane
mediotrusion
a movement of the condyle medially - see 'nonworking side'
nonworking side
that side o the mandible that moves toward the median line in a lateral excursion. The condyle on that side is referred to as the nonworking side condyle
protrusive
adj = protrusive; adv = protrusively, protrusiveness = noun. Means thrusting forward; adjective denoting protrusion
protrusion
a position of the mandible anterior to centric relation
