Amenalism
a seedling growing deep in the shade of an adult tree
(user is harmed while other is unaffected)
Commensalism
one organism benefits why the other doesn't
Predacion
one organism kills/consumes the other for food
Parasltism
benefits off the object that is being harmed
What causes competition?
organisms have the same niche, overlaps niches between species
What are the two types of niches?
generalist and specialist ( beets out other species but its own)
Feeding Relationship Names
top carnivore, 1st carnivore, herbivore, producer
Law of Thermodynamics
energy can not be created or destroyed, no energy transfer is %100 complete
What do decomposers do?
clean up waste and nourish the soil (recycle organic matters)
Three Nutrients that all organisms need?
carbon (fossil fuel), nitrate (makes bacteria usable)aminoacids=proteins, phosphate
What are some density independent factors?
Affect population no matter what, ex: natuunlight, behaviors natural disasters, human interference
Density Dependent factors
only happen if population reaches density
ex: competition for food, crowding, stress ie.
Limiting Nutrients
supply is naturally low, dictates population size
(DD)
What influences producer population?
nutrients in soil, location, weather, sour of energy(SUN)
What influences nutrient cycles?
the cycles of weather (SUN), nutrient concentration
What are biomes?
really large ecosystems that share the same ecosystems
How does natural evolution work?
olgotrophy low biod, mesotrophic perfect bio d, eutrophic low biod
What causes aquatic animals to die off in ponds?
excess nutrients cause algae to grow a lot, then when bacteria decomposes the algae, uses all oxygen (animals die_
How does human evolution work?
skip mestrophic
What is a dead zone?
large areas with excess algae blooms, animals migrate or die off
( stop excess nutrient, clean up algae)
what is ecological succession?
the pattern of events that occur as an ecosystem becomes a climax ecosystem?
what is climax?
the last organism on the list of succession ( highest niche: most adapted)
What are two types of succession?
there is secondary which is green mountain, and there is primary which is starting from scratch
Three types of organisms?
Pioneer organisms(rock->soil) need nothing, primary successional (fast, need lots of food, die fast, and last one is late successional species which is slow growing, use little resources
How populations work?
all populations growth goes to exponential to logistic ( depends on resources)
what is an K- strategist?
1-2 kids, lot of time effort, high rate of survival
ex: elephant
what is an r-stategist?
multiple births, no investment, low rate of offspring
How does the greenhouse effect work?
sun comes in, stuff sucks up sun, later the day the atmosphere is too thick for used to energy to pass back in, trapped energy
Two types of smog?
industrial: grey, humid, factories
photochemical: nitric acid and nocs make sulfuric acid
Temperature inversion?
intensifies both type of smog, when
cold air
inversion layer (WARM)
cool air ( pollutants)
