What is a paragraph?
|
a group of closely related sentences that develop one idea

descriptive - appeals to the senses by relating an image or creating a mood
narrative - tells a story expository - informs or explains persuasive - influences the readers opinion |

What does a topic sentence do?
|
clearly states the main idea of the paragraph (when writing about literature, this usually has the author + title) it focuses on one point, and should never be a "DUH" statement

What does the body do?
|
the body sentences support and/or develop the topic sentence

What does the clincher do?
|
the clincher is a sentence which restates the main idea, summarizes the supporting information, or explains the significance of the information. it never ends a paragraph suddenly.
