Marine Corps created November 10, 1775 at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. By a resolution of Continental Congress which raised 2 battalians of Marines. They were commanded by Captain Samuel Nicholas who is traditionally considered the 1st commandant of the Marine Corps. In 1834 Marines came under the DON. The National Security Act of 1947, amended in 1952, states present structure.
