Provisonals used for?
crown preps b/w peprearing a tooth for a grown and cementing the crown
Provision requirements
1. sedate/protect pulp
2. Prevent Tooth Movement: proxmial/eruption 3. Provide occlusal fxn 4. Easily cleaned 5. Protect free gingiva-non impinging margins 6. strength and retention 7. Esthetics 8. adjust occlusion in some cases |
types of provisional restorations
-Prefabricated
-stock aluminum cylinders -anatomic metal crowns: soft moldable metal/reline -polycarbonate crown forms(tooth colored) -custom: direct/indirect techniques |
Direct Techniques
-Direct Acrylic Resin(self curing)
-fabricated on preped tooth -potentially faster -technique sensitive(can lock on tooth) -expreience shrinkage-less accurate -potential pulpal irritation -Direct Bis-Acryl(Integrity) -Direct Materials -IRM, Glass ionomer, Resins |
Indirect Techniques
-Indirect Acrylic Resin(self curing)
-Fabricated on fast-set plaster cast -May seem slower -More accurate fit -protects pulp -strength -delegated axuiliary personel -ucla technique |
Direct vs. Indirect
Direct: faster, less accurate, irritates pulp
Indirect: slower, more accurate, protects pulp |
Procedure Overview
1. Fabricate acrylic splint on:
-overimpression of unprepared tooth -Diagnostic cast with defets waxed in cast duplicated -alternate-alginate impression store in damp aper towl 2. prepare tooth for crown 3. impression of prep with alginate 4. Pour impression with FAST SET plaster 5. Trim cast/adapt stent to cast 6. Paint rubber sep on cast(alcote/tin) 7.
