Intermediate Skills Lab Test Review for 4/13/11

1. Caregiver to wash hands. Verify Patient
2. Introduce Self and explain procedure.
3. Auscultate Bowel Sounds
4. Aspirate to check gastric content
5. Return Gastric content to maintain pH.

1. Caregiver to wash hands. Introduce Self and explain procedure.
2. Don sterile gloves. Designate sterile hand.
3. With Sterile hand hold suction catheter
4. Suction at 100 - 120 mm Hg. Dip catheter into sterile solution, activate suction(occlude port w thumb)
5. Enter Patient ariway with cath, ensure student only applies suction when withdrawing while rolling catheter.

2. Measure from tip of nose to to earlobe then to xyphoid process of sternum - mark.
3. Lubricate end of tube with water soluble lube
4. Ask for pt to flex neck backwards
5. Tip head forward when gag occurs @ nasopharynx. Tell patient to swallow and advance to mark.

1. Wash hands. Introduce Self.
2. Glove dominant hand first, touching only the inside of the cuff with the thumb and first 2 fingers, pull glove onto dominant hand.
3. with the glove hand slip fingers under the cuff
4. slip glove onto nondominant hand
5. Pull of glove turning it inside out (p815)

1. Caregiver to wash hands. Introduce Self and explain procedure. Place kit between legs and open using aseptic technique
2. Apply sterile gloves.
3. Place sterile drape between thighs, check balloon, attach to drain bag, squeeze tube onto field and coat catheter with it. Apply fenestrated drape to client.
4. Spread the labia or hold penis with nondominant hand, cleanse with iodine - one stroke with each cotton ball.
5. Insert catheter, inflate balloon, verify cc used using catheter info.
