Functions of Qi
TRANSFORMING - spleen food into gu qi, kidney transforms fluids, BL qi transforms urine, heart qi transforms food qi into blood
TRANSPORTING- spleen qi transports gu qi, lung qi transports fluids to the skin, kidney qi transports qi upwards, liver qi transports qi in all directions, lung qi transports downwards HOLDING: Spleen qi holds the blood in the vessels and fluids, kidney qi and bladder qi hold urine, lung qi holds sweat RAISING: spleen qi raises the organs, kidney qi rises upwards PROTECTING: lung qi protects from exterior pathogenic factors WARMING: function of yang qi. both spleen yang and kidney esp have the function of warming the body |
Describe the characteristics of Jin (fluids)
- clear light and watery
- curculate with wei qi on the exterior (skin and muscles) - move quickly - under control of lungs which spreads it to the skin - upper burner also assists by controlling their transformation and movement towards the skin - |
Functions of Jin fluids
- to moisten
- partially nourish skin and muscles - they are exuded as sweat - manifest as tears, saliva and mucus - provide an imp component of the fluid part of blood (thins the blood and prevents it's stasis) |
what are the 2 types of fluid
- Jin fluids
- Ye fluids |
What are the characteristics of Ye fluids?
- turbid, dense and heavy
- circulate with nutritive qi in the interior - move slowly - under control of the spleen and kidney for the transformation - for their movement and excretion they are under control of the middle and lower jiao |
What is the function of Ye fluids?
- moisten joints, spine, brain and marrow
- they lubricate the orifices of the sense organces e.g. ears, eyes, nose and mouth |
Kidney Jing
- -
Differences between essence/ jing and qi
Qi= energy like, everywhere, changes from moment to moment, formed after birth
JING ESSENCE: - formed from the parents - mostly resides in the kidneys - follows cycles of 7-8 years - fluidlike - changes slowly and gradually |
