1. Axiom 2. Anatomy of Any Style 3. Decision Makers 4. The Spectrum 5. The clusters 6. The developmental Effects
Axiom
Teaching behavior is a chain of decision making
The Anatomy of Any Style
Composed of the categories of decisions that must be made in any teaching-learning transaction:
Pre-impact: all prior decisions Impact: all decisions related to actual teaching-learning transaction Post-impact: decisions concerning evaluation of the teacher-learner transaction |
Decision Makers
Both teacher/learner can make decisions in any of the categories delineated in the Anatomy. When most of all of the decision are the responsibility of one individual, that person is at Max Responsibility and the other is at Min
The Spectrum
When who makes what decisions and when it is possible to identify the structure of the styles: In every style decisions are systematically shifted from teacher to learner allowing new objectives- until full spectrum is delineated
(A) the teacher makes all decisions (B) nine specific decisions are shifted from teacher to learner and thus new objectives may be reached. |
The Clusters
the structure of the spectrum represents: production and reproduction
Reproduction: reproduce knowledge that is already known Productive: produce a range of ideas and things- venturing into the unknown |
The Developmental
Decisions always influence what happens to people. Studyingthe influence of each style on the learner in :
Cognitive, affective, social, physical, and moral ways |
Social Channel
sharing, communication skills, cooperation, being courteous to others
Cognitive Channel
comparing, sorting, categorizing, interpreting, imaging
Physical Channel
location, space relationships to others
Emotional Channel
feelings, attitude
Moral/Ethical Channel
involved in doing the right thing, not cheating
Pre-Impact Decisions
objective of lesson, teaching style, learning style, whom to teach, subject matter, when to teach, modes of communication, treatment of questions, organizational arrangements, where to teach, posture, attire and appearance, parameters, class climate, evaluation procedures and materials
Impact Decisions
implementing and adhering to pre-impact decisions, adjustment decisions
Post-Impact Decisions
gathering info about performance in the impact, assessing the info against criteria, providing feedback to learner, treatment of questions, assessing the selected teaching styles, assessing the anticipated learning style, adjustment decisions
