Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
Normal: 0-22 mm/hr
It is a nonspecific measure of inflammation
ESR measures the rate at which RBCs settle out of the blood

C-reactive protein (CRP)
Normal: 0, Positive-more than 1:2 titer
CRP is an abnormal protein that is a sensitive indicator of inflammation

Calcium (Ca2+)
Normal: 4.5-5.5 mEq/L or 9-11 mg/dL
blood levels increase when calcium is released from the bone
*most of the body's calcium is in bones and teeth
(instruct client to withhold all calcium preps for 8-12 hours before the test & client may have to fast for 8 hours before the test)
