what does convention T1 weight MRI show well
gross anatomy, good gray/white matter differntiation
What does FLAIR show well
can highlight tumors better, reveals edema within tumor and surronding tissue
describe the concept of thresholding
mathematical manipulaiton of the image so that only voxels with intesities above the threshold limit are displayed
what is bold fMRI used for
provides images of highly localized changes in blood flow and oxygenation that are driven by changes in net neural acitivity
What is the mechansim of BOLD fMRI
neural activity triggers local vasodilation and incrase in oygenated Hb, oxygenated Hb keeps the magentic field undisturbed so the water protons can emit a radio frequency (deoxy Hb disrupts the field leading to a weak signal from the protons)
What are somve caveats to fMRI
-don't understand how changes in activity related to blood flow 2. singals are slow
