Describe the spinal cord.
- Atlas to conus medullaris, cauda equina, cervical and lumbar enlargements and 31 pairs of spinal nerves.
- extend from the foramen magnum to the level of the first lumbar vertebra.
What is a dorsal root?
- afferent sensory root of the spinal cord
- comes off spinal cord posteriorly
What is a ventral root?
- has motor neurons
- comes off spinal cord anteriorly
What is a lesion?
- an area of damage or dysfunction; a pathologic change that may be structural of functional
What is a focal lesion?
- limited to one single location
- ex: spinal cord tumor, trauma
