A style in which the leader/manager makes majority of the decisions--in an emergency situation
What is meant by laissez-fair (permissive) leadership and when would it be necessary?
A style in which little or no direction is provided--an inpatient psych unit in which autonomy and self-direction are important parts of the units structure
What is meant by democratic (participative) leadership?
Input into decisions is encourage among employees as well as leaders and mangers
What is multicratic leadership?
Leadership in which the most favorable aspects of all styles are implimented determined by the task at hand--most commonly used in health care.
What is legitimate power?
based on the official position in an organization(i.e. clinical director of nursing)
What is referent power?
gained by a person because others like and admire them (a mentor or idol that influences how others act)
What is reward power?
having the ability to grant favors, rewards, or promotions (can be either in a leadership or a worker position)
What is coersive power?
based on the fear of punishment--useful in regards to maintaining safe nursing practices
What is connection power?
represents a cumulative effect of more than one person working together towards a common goal
What are some benefits of transformational leadership?
-employee empowerment

-workers are delgated authority for decision making

understanding how emotions function within oneself and others and the ability to use them effectively
