failure of OC!, but well tolerated

resistence occurs rapidly - must combine with other drugs; used as prophylaxis for meningitis, and to treat leprosy

froms toxic metabolite that damages DNA - bactericidial and anti-protozoal

extended - anaerobes

CNS depression and EtOH intolerance
