Inservice Hours
At least one (1) hour of credit must be earned in pharmacy law.
Up to ten (10) contact hours of credit may be earned in the practice site under the supervision of the pharmacist.
These 10 in-service hours are not to be awarded for working 10 hours at the CPhT's regular duties. An arrangement should be established between the CPhT and supervising pharmacist for the completion of special in-service projects or training.
Continuing Education Notes
These projects or training courses should be selected within the needs of the individual CPhT in mind.
May include self-study articles from professional pharmacy journals the pharmacist selects.
Only the supervising pharmacist listed on the special PTCB Universal Continuing Education Form records these in-service hours.
Hours must be earned within the two-year period.
Requirements must be completed on or before the certification expiration date.
No continuing education hours earned before passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians may be used for re-certification.
Extra hours earned during any two-year certification period may not be carried over and applied to the next certification period requirements.
Audits
A certain number of CPhT's will be chosen at random for an audit of continuing education by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and Institute of Certified Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT)
If chosen for audit, the CPhT must list all continuing education hours on the application and send photocopies of the certificates of completion of the credits.
All continuing education documentation should be kept for at least one year beyond the expiration date of each certification period.
