Action and Therapuetic Effect: Effective as an antidiarrheal agent by prolonging transit time in the colon.Available in 2mg tablets, capsules; 1mg/ml, 1mg/5ml liquid. Do Not give prn doses to a child w/ acute diarrhea.
Discontinue use if no improvement in 48 h of therapy for acute diarrhea. Monitor Fluid and electrolyte balance. Notify physician if diarrhea does not stop in a few days or if abdominal pain, distension, or fever develops.
