inhibitors of cholesterol synthesis used for hypercholesterolemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, coronary atherosclerosis, prophylaxis for coronary atherosclerosis

side effects: myopathy, rhabdomyolysis,, dermatomyositis, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, headache

contraindications: active liver disease, pregnancy/lactation

inhibitors of bile acid absorption used for hypercholesterolemia, pruritis (Cht only)

side effects: increase in triglyceride levels, bloating, dyspepsia, flatulence, bleeding diathesis, secondary to Vit K deficiency

contraindications: complete biliary obstruction, hyperlipidemia types III, IV, or V

inhibitor of cholesterol absorption used for primary hypercholesterolemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, sitosterolemia

side effects: elevated liver function tests, myopathy, dyspepsia, arthralgia, myalgia, headache

contraindications: active liver disease, persistently elevated liver function tests when coadministered with statin

drugs used for isolated hypertriglyceridemia, hypertriglyceridemia with low HDL, type III dysbetalipoproteinemia

side effects: elevated liver function tests, myopathy when coadministered with a statin, arrhythmias, dyspepsia, myalgia, gallstone, xerostomia

contraindications: concomitant gemfibrozil adn cerivastatin, preexisting gall bladder disease, hepatic dysfunction, severe renal impairment

drug used for isolated low HDL, low HDL with mildly elevated LDL or triglycerides, familial combined hyperlipidemia

side effects: hepatotoxicity, GI bleeding, flushing, pruritis, hyperuricemia adn gout, impared insulin sensitivity, myopathy

contraindications: active liver disease, active peptic ulcer, arterial bleeding
