What are some risk factors for disease?
Age, gender, race, immune system, genetic factors
What is angina?
Chest pain due to an imbalance between oxygen supply and demand.
How do you characterize asthma?
Small airway obstruction, progressive airway inflammation, increased airway responsiveness from stimuli.
Symptoms include: wheezing, dyspnea, and coughing.

An enlargement of the prostrate of a male as he ages.
What is Bipolar Disease and how is it characterized?
A depressive psychosis, alternating between excessive phases of mania and depression.
-Mania may be characterized by an increased need for sleep, distractibility, elevated or irritable mood, excessive involvement in pleasurable activities with a potential for painful consequences, grandiose ideas, increase in activity, pressure to keep talking,and racing thoughts.
What is Bronchitis?
A condition in which the lungs' defense mechanisms have been destroyed by cig. smoke, dusts, fumes, pollution, or bacterial infection.
-Characterized by a cough that produces a purulent, green, or blood-soaked sputum.
What is Congestive Heart Failure?
A condition in which the heart is unable to meet the metabolic needs of the tissues. It pumps less blood than it receives.
What is Gestational diabetes?
Occurs during the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Treated with exercise, diet, and insulin.
What is Type 1 diabetes?
An individual's body is unable to produce insulin, and therefore he becomes insulin-dependent.
What is Type 2 diabetes?
A condition that occurs in adults who have an impaired insulin secretion or who are often insulin resistant.
-Treatment includes weight reduction through diet and exercise.
What is Secondary diabetes?
Diabetes with onset caused by taking various medications, such as oral contraceptives, beta-blockers, diuretics, calcium channel blockers, glucocorticoids, and phenytoin.
What kinds of drugs can cause a drug-induced ulcer?
Aspirin, antiimflammatory agents, corticosteroids, potassium chloride, methotrexate, and iron.
What is Emphysema?
The destruction of alveoli, walls, or air sacs of the lungs, resulting in an obstruction of the airflow on expiration.
What is Epilepsy?
Abnormal electrical discharges in the cerebral cortex that may result in recurring paroxysmal seizures.
