Gender-linked Words
Words that do not directly or indirectly denote males or females.
Principles:
1. Speak in the plural
2. Say he or she when using a singular subject
3. Remove gender inflections
4. Use gender specific pronouns for gender specific processes, people, or activities.
Gender-neutral Words
Consisting of sets of sensory impressions evoked in the imagination and memory through language.
Types: Visual, Auditory, Gustatory, Olfactory, Tactile, Kinesthetic, Organic
Imagery
The emotional force of words in context.
Intensity
A comparison of two dissimilar things.
Metaphor
Telling your audience how you are not going to use the concept.
Negative Definition
Spoken language that assumes a more complicated and formal style, more closely resembling written work.
