AH occurs primarily in spinal cord injury at what level?

What is the most common precipitant?
distension of hollow viscus: i.e. rectum or bladder
The degree of AH depends on what?
1) Magnitude of the stimulus

2) the distance away from the lesion. the farther the stimuli the greater the AH response.
Sx's?
Sweating, flushing, nasal obstruction, HA, SOB, nausea, visual changes
Clinical signs:
HTN, Bradycardia, , arrhythmias, sweating, vasodilation
Primary cause of morbidity and mortaity?
cerebral hemorrhage, strokes.
Why do pt become bradycardic?
due to intact bradycardic response to HTN via intact vagus (X) nerve inhibitory pathways
Prevention and treatment?
1) Spinal
