Frontal Lobes
Executive Functioning. Planning, future actions, regulates behavior, cognitive flexibility.
Parietal Lobes
Top portion of the brain.

Assimilates body sensations.
Symbolic associations and math skills.
Sometimes integrates information.
Temporal Lobe
Near and under the ears.

Auditory information, and is implicated in reading problems (phonemic awareness)
Occipital Lobe
Back of the head, responsible for processing visual information.
Amygdala
Emotions and emotional responses.
Hippocampus
Stores memories, makes new memories.

Linked to mental illness, Alzheimer's.

Thought to be impacted by estrogen.
Cerebral Cortex
Higher order reasoning
Broca's Area
Responsible for speech production, language processing, and language comprehension, as well as controlling facial neurons.
Wernicke's Area
Located on the temporal lobe on the left side of the brain and is responsible for the comprehension of speech
Limbic System
Part of the lower brain - houses amygdala and hypocampus, etc. - responsible for emotions
Aphasia
Inability to use language
Agnosia
Inability to identify seen objects
"Left Hemisphere"
Large but not totally responsible for language, speaking, writing, math, coordinating some complex movements.
"Right Hemisphere"
Large but not totally responsible for recognizing patterns, faces, spatial relations and recognizing emotions.
ADHD and the Brain
Thought to be associated with dysfunction in the frontal lobes, but research is still emerging.
