Scriptures for the Worrier

When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn't do but on what God said he would do.

Abraham didn't focus on his own impotence and say, "It's hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child." Nor did he survey Sarah's decades of infertility and give up. He didn't tiptoe around God's promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, and empowered by faith as he gave praise & glory to God, fully assured that God was able to keep His Word and do what He had promised.

Therefore I tell you, stop being anxious and worried about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Go out and look at the wildflowers which never shop for food or give a care to how beautiful they are. If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.Don't worry about missing out. Strive after His way of doing and being right and you'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and definite requests, with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Casting all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.

God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him.
We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in seastorm and earthquake, before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains. Jacob-wrestling God fights for us, God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.

God, hear my cry; listen to my prayer.
I call to you from the ends of the earth when I am afraid.
Carry me away to a high mountain.
You have been my protection,
like a strong tower against my enemies.
Let me live in your Holy Tent forever.
Let me find safety in the shelter of your wings.

God, the one and only— I'll wait as long as he says.
Everything I need comes from him, so why not?
He's solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, an impregnable castle:
I'm set for life.

"If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God,
"I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I'll rescue you, then throw you a party. I'll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!"

I go to bed and sleep in peace, because, Lord, only you keep me safe

God makes his people strong.
God gives his people peace

I can't wait to hear what God has to say. I will listen [with expectancy] to what God the Lord will say, for He will speak peace to His people, to those who are in right standing with Him.

Lord, you will grant us peace;
all we have accomplished is really from you.
