what are the random side effects to remember for diuretics?

thiazides! cause high sugar, high lipids, high uric acid, hyponatremia/hypokalemia, and alkalosis (send more junk to the distal tubule = exchange it for H+). Don't give thiazides with LITHIUM (lithium toxiciity)
remember thiazides and loops are SULFAS (except ethyrcrinic acid) |

asthmatics (COPD counts) and be careful in diabetics (masks signs of hypoglycemia)

remember Cox-2 doesn't inhibit platelets OR the stomach. don't give to ASTHMATICS or nasal polyp people - they're prone to have hypersensitivity reactions to ASA. |
