What is the function of Meninges? And where is it located?
Protects the brain by the blood-brain barrier. Non-lipid soluble agents cannot pass through. Between the skull and cerebrum.
What is the Cerebral Cortex?
The outer grey area of the brain. Can be divided into sensory, association and motor areas.
What are the three distinct areas of the brain?
Forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain
What is the Cerebrum?
Largest part of brain. Divided into four lobes.
What are the four lobes?
Frontal, Parietal, Occipital, and Temporal.
What is the function of the Frontal lobe?
Controls voluntary muscles, intellectual activities and personality.
What is the function of the Parietal lobe?
Associated with touch, temperature awareness, emotions and interpreting speech.
What is the function of the Occipital lobe?
Associated with vision and interpret visual information.

Auditory reception.

Directs incoming sensory information to the cerebrum.
What is the function of the Hypothalamus?
Involved in homeostasis, hunger and thirst, link between the nervous and endocrine systems and coordinates the pituitary gland.

Relay station for eye and ear reflexes.

Receives information from proprioceptors, fine motor control and balance and is the second largest part of the brain.

Relay station between medulla, cerebellum and higher brain regions.
What is the function of the Medulla Oblongata?
Link between peripheral and central nervous system and coordinating center for the autonomic system.
