Benazepril HCl	Lotensin	Hypertension Suppression of RAAS system. Competitive Ace inhibition angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Inhibition of ACE, leads to decreased Ang II and aldosterone. Do not discontinue med unless otherwise directed. Avoid Non-prescription cough, cold, allergy meds. Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium. Report any FACIAL swelling, difficulty in breathing(Angioedema). Store cool/dry place from sunlight/children. Do not double doses.
Enalapril Maleate	Vasotec	Hypertension The active metabolite is produced. Competitive Ace inhibition angiotensin I to angiotensin II May be taken w/o regard to meals. Stop use if any swelling occurs. Avoid non-prescription cough, cold, and allergy meds . Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium. Do not double doses. Report any signs of neutropenia(fever, sore throat).
Furosemide	Lasix	Edema, Hypertension loop diuretic, inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the proximal, distal, and loop of henle May be taken w/ food/milk if GI upset. Timing of dose important because diuresis-usually given in a.m. Avoid sunlight. Do not take any non-prescrip cough, cold, medicines, antacids, laxatives, or antidiarrheals. May cause orthostatic hypotension. Do not double doses.
Hydrochlorothiazide	Hydrodiuril/Microzide	Hypertension Inhibits reabsorption of sodium/chloride at the distal renal tubule May be taken with food/milk if GI upset. Timing of dose important because of increased diuresis. Usually given in a.m. Avoid sunlight. Store in cool/dry place. If dose is missed, skip it and return to normal.
Irbesartan	Avapro	Hypertension Blocks binding of angio II to the ATI receptor. Found in many tissues. DOES NOT INHIBIT ACE Take w or w/o food. When pregnancy is detected, discontinue drug asap. Store in cool/dry place away from sunlight/children.
Lisinopril	Prinivil, Zestril	Hypertension Suppression of R-A-A-S system. Competitive inhibition of ACE Take w/o regard to meals. Avoid non-prescrip cough, cold, and allergy meds. Avoid salt subs containing potassium. Store in cool/dry place from sunlight/children. Do not double doses. Contact physician for signs of swelling.

Losartan	Cozaar	Hypertension Blocks binding of angio II to the ATI receptor. Found in many tissues. Admin w or w/o food. When pregnancy is detected, should be discontinued asap. Store in a cool dry place away from sunlight/children. Contact phys for severe effects.
Losartan/HCTZ	Hyzaar	Hypertension Blocks binding of angio II to the ATI receptor. Found in many tissues. Admin w or w/o food. Store in a cool/dry place from sunlight/children. Timing of dose is important because of increased diuresis. Avoid excessive expos to sunlight.
Potassium Chloride	Klor-con K-dur Micro K	Potassium replacement Principal intracellular cation. Take w or after meals w/full glass of water. Swallow tablets whole. May be halved. Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium. Matrix may be found in stool. Store in a cool/dry place from sunlight/children.
Ramipril	Altace	Hypertension Suppression of R-A-A-S system. Competitive inhibition of ACE Do not discontinue meds unless directed by physician. Capsules may be swallowed whole or contents sprinkled over soft food. Can be mixed with apple juice/water. Stable 24 hrs room temp, 48 hrs refrig. Avoid nonprescrip cough, cold, and allergy meds. Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium. Report any signs of facial swelling, difficulty in breathing, infection. Do not double doses. Store in cool dry place from sunlight/children.
Triamterene/Hydrochlorothiazide	Dyazide, Maxzide	Hypertension Inhibits reabsorption of sodium in exchange for potassium at distal renal tubule. Hydro-inhibits reabsorption of sodium chloride at distal renal tubule. Timing of dose is important because of increased diuresis. Usually given in a.m. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Store in cool/dry place away from sunlight.
Valsartan	Diovan	Hypertension Blocks binding of angio II to the ATI receptor. Found in many tissues. Take w or w/o food. Best to admin without food for consistent plasma levels. When pregnancy is detected, discontinue asap. Store in cool/dry place away from sunlight/children. Dizziness may occur in the first few days of tx.
Valsartan/HCTZ	Diovan-HCT	Hypertension Blocks binding of angio II to the ATI receptor. Found in many tissues. Hydro-inhibits reabsorption of sodium/chloride at the distal renal tubule. May be admin w or w/o food. When pregnancy is detected , should be discontinued asap. Store in cool/dry place away from sunlight/children. Dizziness may occur first few days.
