Why use word codes?
codes used to represent single word to facilitate communication and improve speaking rate.
Alpha/letter word codes
truncation codes: abbreviated words by using first couple of letters in the spelling of the word (yest)

contraction codes: letters used are only the ones that convery the word (ystdy)
Alphanumeric word codes
letter and numbers uses to make a word & allows for the same word to be represented in a variety of groups by changing the number associated with it (food1, food 2, food 3) could represent foods that are dairy, meats, veggies etc.
Letter-category word codes
1st letter in the superordinate category and the 2nd letter is the first letter of the word (FD stands for F-food, d-dairy) and so on.
Numeric encoding
coding by number to represent short common phrases. reequires a lot of memorization & time to learn codes
Morse code
international system using variation of dots and dashes that represents letters, punctuation & numbers & need an emulator to translate then into letters/numbers.
