“Now, go thy ways; thou hast tamed a curst shrew.” There are many differences between the play The Taming Of The Shrew and the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. There are also several similarities between the two. Both stories have the same general plot. In 10 Things I Hate About You, there is no character who acts as Lucentio/ Cameron. Lastly, both of the stories have the same antagonist and the same protagonist.
In both of the stories, the father of Katherine and Bianca says that Bianca isn’t allowed to date or marry a boy until Katherine does. The problem is that Kat is rude, antisocial, and has no interest in dating or marrying a boy. So the suitors of Bianca try and find someone who is willing to date or marry Katherine. In The Taming Of The Shrew they find Petruchio who is willing to “tame” Kat because he is looking for a challenge a conquer. In 10 Things I Hate About You the suitors find Patrick who they have to pay to “tame” Kat and end up dating her. Kat ends up dating in 10 Things I Hate About You, and being married in The Taming Of The Shrew. So Bianca is allowed to date and get married. …show more content…
Kat acts as the protagonist in both stories. Kat is the protagonist because she doesn’t want to marry anyone or date anyone but eventually she does and realizes she likes being in some form of a relationship. Petruchio is the antagonist in The Taming Of The Shrew because he forces Kat into a marriage she doesn’t want to be in and tries, and succeeds at “taming” her and changing her. Patrick is the antagonist in 10 Things I Hate About You because he dates Kat and helps her change and become a more social and likable person. Kat changes in both stories as a result of her newfound
