9/11: A Short Story

11:00 a.m.

I was woken up with the smell of my favorite breakfast. I flew down the stairs as fast as I could. On the table was fluffy yellow scrambled eggs with cheese melted over the top. Next to it was two pieces of bacon and a glass of strawberry orange juice. After I finished I picked up my plate to wash it but noticed something under it. A note with my mom’s credit card folded in it. On the note it read “car keys by the door, have fun!” I got dressed quickly and called my best friend Alex.

“Get dressed I have a surprise, be there in five!”

12:00 p.m.

I drove up to her house. She was sitting on her porch on her phone, her long blonde hair pulled into a high ponytail. She waved to me and got in the car. I held up the credit card. She squealed and started listing things for us to do; go to the mall, get our nails done, go

I drove to Manhattan so we could go to the mall. On the way there we blasted the radio and sang as loud as we could. We finally arrived. First, we went to the nail salon. We got a foot massage and flowers all over our nails. Then, we went to every store we passed. We bought more things than we could carry.

3:00 p.m.
We were driving down the road, trying to decide what to do next. “There!” She yelled at the top of her lungs. I looked past her finger and saw a pet store. We scrambled out of the car and dashed in. Hundreds of puppies behind a glass door barked and played. A woman came up to us.
“How can I help you?”
“Can we hold some of them?”
She nodded and opened the doors.
“Which ones?”
We pointed to the two most adorable puppies in the room. She got them out and brought them to us. The one she handed Alex was a chestnut colored dachshund with droopy ears and bright, playful, brown eyes. She handed me the newborn puppy that was squirming in her arms. It was a beagle with a copper back and a shiny white stomach. She looked like she dipped her nose in white paint. After playing with them for an hour we decided to buy
