One time I was so bored that I decided to rearrange my entire room. By myself. Long story short my room looks amazing and I got a new TV because I had somewhere to put it. I say this to demonstrate how boredom makes room for new and great things. Boredom has proven many times before to make people do stupid things for thousands of years, but they've paid off. I mean, how do you think fire was made? Those cavemen had to be pretty bored to bang rocks together, but then they discovered a spark. Boredom is a good thing because it gives you time to reflect on how you feel, or have felt, exercises the introspective attention network in your brain, and gives you down time to relax.
There are videos all over the internet of people doing dumb things out of boredom, but those things have started to have meaning. People are making money off of their videos on YouTube, and Instagram also has

The attention network of your brain is in the prefrontal cortex (the front) and when you're bored this part of your brain kicks into action and starts making your mind wander and make up fantastical stories and bits (you know, those arguments in your head that you coincidentally always win) that usually won't really happen.
Being bored also gives you time to relax. If you're always busy and never bored then you're never relaxing. This can cause stress. Yes, being bored can cause anxiety because some people can't handle boredom and think that they have to be doing something so they freak out, but I assure you they only worry for a few seconds before their mind focuses on something different, occupying them.
So, in short boredom is a good thing because it makes you creative, gives you time to relax and time to reflect on your feelings. The life of the creative man is lead, directed, and controlled by boredom. -Susan

Lewis’ article states, “It’s the part of your brain you use to be creative, daydream, imagine your future, and think about what you’ve learned and experienced.” Without boredom, we wouldn’t reflect and imagine things, because our brains would be too focused on other things, like our smartphones or a television show. Lastly, everyone needs some boredom in their lives because without it, the introspection part of their brain may get “out of practice.” Both of the attention networks can’t be used at the same time.…

Modern generations face the burden of productivity. Idle time is time wasted, and stopping even for a moment to inhale results in a rapid exhale– a gasp of indignation. The conflict between the push for constant productivity and the urge for boredom-born inspiration results from the varying views of waste across generations. Through historical and personal context, Claire Messud’s “In Praise of Boredom” establishes a parallel between generations with regard to their focus on averting waste—either of resources for older generations or time for millenials. This focus, in turn, closes the gap between audiences of different age groups.…
