Norman Dello Joio, the descendant of an Italian organist family, was an American composer and organist. Influenced by his family, Dello Joio combined the elements of Italian heritage Opera with Gregorian Chant in his music. In addition, his music was also influenced by Jazz on the rhythm and harmony. With the chance of learning with Bernard Wagenaar and Paul Hindemith, Dello Joio had a turning point on his compositional skills. After the pianist Sidney Foster premiered at the Indiana University in 1952, Piano Sonata No.3 became his well-known piece and made him be the significant composer in the Twentieth Century of American.
