Family Demographic Study

For this project I interviewed three different families. The first family I interviewed was a family with both parents and one infant child attending a day care. The second family I interviewed was a single mother of twins who are attending preschool. The third family that I interviewed was foster parents whose children are attending preschool and elementary. In our discussions we discuss that as a teacher it is important to understand families because we don’t know what their living environment and schedule may be like. It helps provide vouchers to clients who can use them to purchase food at their local grocery store. I selected this agency because from experience I know how much single mothers struggle and stress about making sure their children always has food on the table. The difference between the demographics of the families in the classroom with what I learned thru my readings, discussions and family interview is that in the book it talks about gender role behaviors and a child centered society but in the class room there are no gender role behaviors all teachers are the same. They are people who put the child before themselves. The similarities between my demographic study and the families I had interviewed is that there is a decrease in family size, and stress in modern living. When I interviewed my own mother I gained a lot of insight. At the beginning she struggled. She had to deal with an abusive relationship with my father and raise me and my brother at the same time. At the time we lived in Honoka’a but she worked all the way in Kona so most of the time we spent raising ourselves. My mother said it was difficult having to leave us on our own but she had no other
