schizophrenia. The mental health community is often associated with maladaptive behaviors that
have created a negative stigma in health care. This negative stigma has promoted less than
stellar care from health care providers. The lack of resources in the community and area hospitals
continues to perpetuate the problem of inadequate care. The lack of resources within the

standard protocol, and emotional disconnect all have weight to poor care (Zun, 2016).
Emergency department nurses spend countless hours outside of their basic nursing courses,
preparing for whatever the day brings them. On the standard, emergency department nurses
have their BLS, ACLS, and PALS. If they work for a trauma hospital, often they will be
required to have TNCC training. Some nurses go above and beyond with additional training
like critical care or SANE. There is little to no training offered for caring for psychiatric
patients (Zun, 2016). A local hospital’s approach to psychiatric patients is how to defect

in-directed affected by Florida being poorly ranked. Poorly managed mental disease can lead to
behaviors that may need the assistance of emergency systems or law enforcement. The lack of
funding and available resources ends up costing more in the long run. If a patient is struggling
with depression that requires more than medication from a primary care physician, the patient
