Admirable Person In To Kill A Mockingbird

An admirable person is deserving of respect and are typically well loved. Admirable

people have a variety of commendable traits, the character Tom Robinson in Harper Lee’s novel

To Kill A Mockingbird is an example of an admirable person. In the novel there are many

characters who are rude, mean and racist. Tom is one of the few characters who proved to be an

admirable person.The novel takes place in a time when racism towards black people was normal,

but throughout the book Tom Robinson shows many characteristics such as courage,

perseverance, and integrity.

The first trait Tom shows is courage. Tom offers Mayella a character in the book who is a

white female to help with her chores, this is further demonstrated

Tom

shows perseverance by trying to prove his innocence throughout the trial when he knew it would

not end the way he wanted it to.

Tom also shows integrity as one of his traits. In the trail Tom was honest about everything,

including the fight he had and how he had to serve time in jail because he could not pay the fine.

Tom shows his honesty and integrity by saying “Yes suh, I had to serve cause I couldn't pay the

fine, the other fellow paid his’n” (Lee 254). This is meaningful because Tom is showing his

Honesty as he is explaining what happened, also he explains what was caused during the fight

‘“ I got into a fight with another man he tried to cut me.’ ‘Did he succeed?’ the judge asked ‘Yes

suh, a little not enough to hurt” (Lee 254). This is ke to showing his integrity and honesty by

All of these situations and statements here, prove that Tom is an admirable character because

he shows courage, perseverance, and integrity. As said before, an admirable person is well
