World War II began on September 1, 1939 after Hitler attacked Poland. During WWII Hitler, was arresting not only Jews but communists, Slavs, homosexuals, and mentally or physically disabled people. This was the beginning of the holocaust. Hitler started just by killing them in horrible ways but he wasn’t satisfied enough so he made death camps and concentration camps. They were forced to work under horrible conditions. Only a handful of prisoners survived, while others were dying from starvation, overwork, or one of the many diseases. If they were not capable of work anymore the guards would kill them. Auschwitz is the most known concentration camps. They would take a train there and the ones that could work would get stripped uniforms and a tattoo on their left arm of their registration number. They were forced to mine coal or work at factories that made supplies for the war. If they weren’t at camps they were in the ghettos. The ghettos are known as neighborhoods that are sealed off from everything else with tall fences or tall walls lined with barbed wire and guards. Usually the ghettos were overpopulated and unsanitary, it was a waited place for concentration camps. They would die in horrible was if they weren’t “useful” anymore.
