The findings of this case study on Help-Age Ghana’s “Adopt a Granny Scheme” can be summarized as follows:
• The program provides a much need social and fiscal services to older persons in Ghana. Documented evidence of poverty among older persons and lack of social security welfare program for the elderly in Ghana means this program is a vital social solution to the problems aforementioned.
• Although Help-Age Ghana and its community based age care groups are concentrated in the capital city – Accra, poor older persons outside this catchment area are able to benefit from the program through the agency’s partners such as Sisters of Hope and Age Concern Ghana.
• Comprehensive nature of the program and its link with other social programs run by Help-Age Ghana ensures that clients of “Adopt a Granny Scheme” are able to meet their basic physiological needs as well as other advance needs according to Maslow 's hierarchy of need.
