Critics of Dodgson’s “Alice in Wonderland” have referred to the White Rabbit and the King of Hearts as being Alice Liddell’s father, Henry Liddell. Henry was the Dean of Christ Church, in Oxford which previously stated was where Dodgson taught mathematics. A critic said “There's also a portrait of Alice's father, thought to be the original White Rabbit. One explanation is that as head of both the college and the cathedral he was a busy man, always in a hurry and often late, so he resembled the White Rabbit hastening to meet the Queen” (Hopley). Although it is not exactly positive if the White Rabbit was created off of Henry Liddell there was a lot of similarities that the White Rabbit and Henry possessed. On the other hand there is the possibility that Henry Liddell is the King of Hearts and his wife was the Queen of Hearts. In an article titled “Alice in Wonderland Full of Symbolism, author says” by David Day, he makes a comment saying “He's the King of Hearts, his wife is the Queen of Hearts. They turn kind of bad at the end because Carroll had an argument with her family because they wouldn't let him see her any more.” It is unsure which character is actually supposed to be based off of Henry, but each do have similarities.
