This also allowed the United States fight in a proxy war, in which other countries did much or most of the fighting for themselves, with the financial support from the United States. The proxy war is a big advantage to Americans because it saved thousand of lives since there was never any direct conflict between the two super countries of the Soviet Union and America, and this lowered the chances of a nuclear war. Another advantage was the economic strength superiority of the United States over the Soviet Union. The US should have used their military advantage at the beginning of the war and crushed the Soviet instead of allowing them to catch up in the nuclear arm race later in the Cold war. Also another big disadvantage of the Truman doctrine was the extremely high cost of the war on its multiple fronts around the globe. The United States spent an estimated 8 Trillion dollars for themselves and other countries in the war.
