Against Love Kipnis Analysis

I would like to share about my latest reading response on “Against love” by Laura Kipnis in “The Writer’s Presence A Pool of Readings Eighth Edition” page six hundred sixty. In this essay, author argued on a very controversial topic that is love, marriage and infidelity. Kipnis claimed that love immense our thoughts and life decisions. She also revealed that marriage is not a good idea for most people, because it reduces freedom, required obedience and needs the most devotion. Moreover, she discussed about the social expectation of love and marriage in this twenty-first century. In her opinion, we have to give up our freedom and fully devoted to a long-term relationship in exchanging the benefits of companionship, having children and reassurance of predictability. Additionally, I would also like to share some information about John Taylor Gatto’s “Against School”; his argument was compulsory schooling system / public education creates a passive and immature society, importantly it limits individuals ‘critical thinking and creativity. In fact, he encouraged educators to inspire kids for the best qualities of their youthfulness – curiosity, adventure, resilience, and be more about time and test. This statement can verified on paragraph four of his essay. Accordance to Gatto’s, compulsory school system is actually benefit the private educators, private schools and home schooling centers. Because of the certain deficiencies of public school-quality of teaching materials, subject’s objective, grading system and etcetera, private entities are actually using as the business opportunity to generate money. Example: General public schools is subsidized with welfare, yet private educators, private schools and home schooling centers charge at a very expensive tuition for the general education
