Air Force Personal Statement

The opportunity to serve as an officer will satisfy multiple objectives. Throughout my eight years in the Air Force, I have excelled in every organization. However, this wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the passionate leaders who inspired me along the way. My first objective of desiring a commission is to carry forward the legacy of leadership that has inspired me to make the Air Force a career. I wouldn't be the well-rounded NCO I am today if it weren't for the selfless leaders that took time to mentor me and define who I am as an Airman. However, as an NCO, my circle of impact is only so big, and my ability to influence others is somewhat limited. As an officer, I believe I can expand that circle of impact allowing the Air Force to capitalize on …show more content…
The first skill that I have learned through professional and academic experiences in the Air Force is to set high, but realistic standards. The practice of setting standards establishes the foundation for excellence and is essential to any Air Force organization. The second skill I have to offer the Air Force as a commissioned officer is to be an active leader. Stepping out from behind my desk, getting to know others, and being visible is paramount to building trust with those I lead. However, active leadership is ineffective without solid communication skills. My ability to write and speak is excellent; furthermore, I understand the most important skill to being an effective communicator is listening. Finally, and most predominately, is my positive attitude. No matter what environment, circumstances, or situation, I recognize my attitude is my choice and has a significant impact on the organization. When leaders choose a positive attitude, their subordinates do the same. Ultimately, I believe the skills I’ve worked hard to master will be critical in developing our next generation

The Development: The American Air Force was created as a result of Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, being bombed by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. Pearl Harbor held numerous amounts of American boats which had approximately 350 planes on them, in case they needed to be deployed from the sea rather than the land. Japan decided to bomb America 's defense force because they wanted to take over the pacific, and in order to do that they had to weaken America 's defense force. When the Japanese destroyed a majority of their already minimal air force, America developed a significantly larger and better air force to declare war on Japan.…

Before I came to Kisling Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA), I thought of myself as a good leader with certain traits and aspects. I believe that if I take care of my airmen, that they’ll take care of me by completing work orders, squadron objectives, or any future events without question. It wasn’t until I attended NCOA, that I was able to put concept names to the leadership traits that I had. For example, I would put aside my self-interest for the good of the work center because I wanted my guys to know that I have their best interest at heart. Which turns out to be part of transformational leader idealized influence.…

Defining Core Values of Leadership The military recognizes leadership as being “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization” (FM 6-22, 2006, p. 1-2). Moreover, it defines three core attributes that a leader should exemplify, following a formula of: BE, KNOW, and DO. A soldier should be in line with the common values and ideals of both their nation and military, to help shape a leader’s character.
