Ancient civilizations marveled at the creatures that were able to obtain this ability and viewed them as supernatural or godlike creatures due to the fact that they could go where no human could go at the time. The most notable beginning to this company began in 1926 when the young Charles Lindbergh became the chief pilot of the Robertson Aircraft Corporation of Missouri. Within the next decade, Robertson Aircraft Corporation would later become one of the key companies that would consolidate to become American Airlines. The corporation at that time was only the second company that held a United States airmail contract, and carried mail all over the US. The initial formation and consolidation of American Airlines began in 1929 with the merging of a variety of small air companies to form The Aviation Corporation. Within the next five years, the company grew larger and larger to eventually become the now known American Airlines, Inc. in the year 1934. The formation of the new American Airlines continued to expand the company’s growth and on June 10th of 1939, the firm began trading its stock on the New York Stock exchange. As with any company, the growth allowed and pushed them to explore new opportunities for revenue. When the late 1930’s came about, American Airlines pushed themselves to become one of America’s top airline firms that provided commercial air travel. By 1937, American Airlines had serviced one million passengers and was declared the largest grossing firm per domestic passenger miles (History of AMR Corporation and American Airlines).
