The worship from humans can empower gods, allowing them to continue to exist and influence the world. “All [someone has] to believe with is [their] senses” (Gaiman, 125) and this acts as a way of worship towards the gods. The way the gods affect the world is by segregation. This is evident by viewing the variety of religions spoken about in the text. Though, “religions are, by definition, metaphors… [A] vantage point from which to view the world”(452) they still allow people to be put into categories and groups. As a result, because of the vast amount of gods, there then are so many different religions. This causes segregation due to all the gods and how one religion may view themselves as the absolute one. For instance, the two groups of gods are the old and new, as the new gods become more powerful, the old forgotten gods become less. In effect, segregation separates the two into different categories.
