After reading chapter two of ‘Good to Great’ by Collins Jim, I was able to realize why I came to a stall in my last job as well as what skills I need to work on in order to grow as an individual and leader. In the chapter ‘Level 5 Leadership’ Jim Collins uses a chart to use as a reference when assessing yourself as the type of leader you are. This tool allowed me to reflect on what strengths I have but also what is needed of me to grow into the next level of a leader and allow me to be best utilized by my company. This chapter has led me to question whether or not I see a future for myself in my previous job but also has shown me I do have significant qualities that make a great leader, it’s up to oneself to reach the next step.
Experience
In my previous job at T-Mobile I found myself at the second level of the hierarchy levels being a contributing team member. I was able to realize my greatest strengths in my field was having the discipline of communicating well with my supervisors, gaining their trust, showing the desire to take on challenges, and being competent enough to take carry out tasks. Where I did lack skill was having the ability to work with new employees in getting them up to speed and motivating them to want to succeed in the job. I hope in my next job I will be given a position where I can practice working with other employees in helping them find their inspiration. In effect it will also improve my skills as a leader in hopes of getting the chance to manage and taking the next steps so I can become an effective level three and potential level four
