If I can spend a day with any Latino person it would have to be Selena Quintanilla. Selena was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was given the nick name “Queen of Tejano,” which was Mexican music incorporated with other styles, in her case it was country. At a young age Selena was meant to be an international known singer. At the age of 10, she was the lead singer in her family band, Selena y Los Dinos. Even though she is not here with us today, her music and devotion still lingers. Ever since I was a young girl I was always had a fascination when it came to Selena. She wasn’t afraid to show who she really was or wasn’t afraid to go past her comfort zone. She was the one who opened the doors to many Latino artists. I wish that she was able to see how Dreaming of You, her English album that was released after her death, touched the hearts of so many people and how her American dream was an overall success. I would have loved to see how she would have reacted to seeing her dream become a reality. If I had the chance to spend a day with Selena I think just being able to talk to her would change my life more than hearing about her life story. She isn't like any other person. Selena changed the lives of so many people in the past, which in the end also changed the lives of the people in the future. She set the pathway for so many artists and she encourage Latinos to be proud of their heritage. She moved people to see who she really was, a woman with a passion to show and live out her
