Bao Ninh is an author, which can be associated as an artist. His novel, The Sorrow of War, was a ban book in communist Vietnam because he was expressing his opinion about communism and the Vietnam War in his own novel. Furthermore, man generally ignores women’s voices, so it is difficult to learn their true thought. One of Kien comrade was named Hoa, she is a teenager girl who joins the northern army and involves herself to the war directly. During an event, she sacrifices herself for the safety of Kien and other wounded soldiers. Before the American soldiers capture her, she tells Kien "I 'm afraid to be alone…I want to be with you, Kien" (188). This is the last word she ever exchanges with Kien. The novel never actually reveals that she is dead or alive after the event, but she is definitely worst than dead when she is getting defiled by the American soldiers. Even though most women never show that they need men to protect them, but on the inside, they feel unsafe and wants their love one to protect them.
